Our Stance on Controversial and Divisive Issues

"We can overcome division only by refusing to be divided."
Raymond Williams

America has always been a land of deeply held, contentious opinions. The Constitution aimed to protect freedom of expression as an essential corrective for the misuse of power. TAP is about stopping the misuse of power to stifle free expression. It is about modeling respect, dialogue, and the pursuit of truth, “as God gives us to see the right,” as Lincoln said.

Lincoln spoke at a time when America was engaged in a horrible civil war. If we wish to avert another civil war, we must avoid polarized discourse, listen respectfully, and learn to engage in respectful discourse, recognizing that we are all citizens of one country and one world.
